Lose Your Tummy Minus The Fad Diets
Food is necessity of life. We have more of it but quantity does not mean quality. We have more access to information about diet and nutrition but many of us prefer to remain willfully ignorant regarding our health or believe the media hype on the latest diet. Diets don’t take into account the other factors such as emotional, social, psychological and behavioral factors that affect your ability to lose your tummy.
The reason that the diet industry is multi billion-dollar industry in the United States is that diets are quick fix solution for long-term multi-faceted problem. Being able to lose the pregnancy weight for the long-term seems simple on paper but it’s not fast and easy task in reality. It’s time to pull our heads out of the sand and take responsibility for our actions to lose the tummy. It’s time to start living healthy.
Dieting schools of thought either promote eating or eliminating specific foods or eating specific combination of foods or eating according to your blood type or having specific times that foods must be eaten. Dieting to lose your tummy will work for the short term but not be substantial for the long term. Knowledge is power and so it’s time to know the truth about these popular diets that will keep you in the weight-loss-revolving door to lose your tummy.
Cutting out the Carbs Diets
Diets with the “carb is bad” philosophy, such as Sugar Busters, can make you lose your tummy but it is usually too rigid and difficult to maintain for the long term. Carbohydrates are the first source of fuel for your body and keeping this fuel scarce will only make you tired and cranky.
It’s the types of carbohydrates you eat that matter and not the carbohydrate itself when trying to lose your tummy. Your diet should have less refined carbohydrates such as white rice, bread and pasta, potatoes and sweets and more carbohydrates from whole grains such as whole-wheat bread and whole-grain pasta are to be eaten more in your diet. And of course the fruits and vegetables fall in between the two.
Low Fat Diets
Committing to fat-free diet is just switching to diet high in carbohydrates. Too much carbs can leads to diabetes and hypertension. Most fat-free products compensate the lack of fat by adding sugar and are “fat-free” but still high in calories thanks to the sugar.
Fat is an essential nutrient and needs to be an integral part of your daily diet to help you lose your tummy and stay healthy. One of the benefits of having unsaturated fats as the bulk of your dietary fat is that it improves your good (HDL) cholesterol and prevents heart disease. As for saturated and trans fats less is more for better health and weight management.
Even though fad diets work for the short term, is it really worth the time, money, sacrifice and effort only to gain the weight back and diet again? Most moms who are trying to lose their tummy need to eat balanced but calorie reduced diet combined with increased physical activity. No more, no less. Just remember to always strive for maintaining health and wellness and enjoy life.
