We have been told that we are entering period of change, but do we know what it really means? You would think looking at the lines of people waiting to vote that there was little doubt. People seem to want change.

He stood for change and that is probably what he’s going to deliver. Some of the change won’t be particularly pleasant, but let’s hope for the first time we have president who doesn’t care if he doesn’t get re-elected. Let’s hope he just does what has to be done.

There is often lot of concern expressed about change. It sometimes has an ominous ring to it. Actually there is nothing to be afraid of. Without change there is no progress. Change is necessity.

Actually, change is something to look forward to. Change is just another word for learning.

What we must always try to avoid is sudden change, change that is forced upon us: change that is dictated by events rather than crafted by hard work and common sense.

What is for sure is that Barak Obama can’t be the only catalyst for change. He needs you to change too.

If change is just another word for learning, shouldn’t we be taking leaf from his book? If we were to exercise the same amount of self-discipline, determination and effort in our personal lives as he has demonstrated in his bid for the White House, what huge difference that would make.

Where to start? What about health? The health of the nation is not good. 64% of Americans are overweight and third of those are obese. If these statistics could be reversed it would represent massive change and the benefits to individuals – and to the state would be enormous. It’s surely time to emphasise the discipline of self-responsibility and to encourage people to make change in their lives. We need to learn new behaviors and learn new habits – slim habits. This could be our first – and very positive – contribution to this new era of change.
